Seminar on "World Health Day" organized by The University of Faisalabad.

The University of Faisalabad, organized a seminar on 8th April,2013  to celebrate the world health day. Chief guest of the event was the Advisor to Chairman BOG, Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Tahir, Seminar was attended by the faculty members and students of different disciplines.

It is pertinent to mention that the World Health Day is celebrated every year internationally to mark the founding day of WHO in 1948. WHO selects a special topic and theme for the day every year. That highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.



The topic for this year’s World Health Day was “hypertension” with the theme “control your blood pressure”.


In his presentation Dr. Ali Majeed from medicine department, Madina teaching hospital (MTH), highlighted the causes and complications of “Hypertension” (High blood pressure)


 He reported “hypertension is the silent killer and the leading cause of Heart failure, Myocardial infarction and Chronic renal failure across the globe, and  1 in every 3 adults is suffering from it, 1 in 3 adults with hypertension does not know that he/she has this disease, whereas 1 in 3 adults taking treatment of hypertension cannot keep it under control. ”


He warned that if left uncontrolled , Hypertension can cause blindness, irregular heartbeat, heart failure and kidney failure.


He further added that  according to the National Health Survey of Pakistan, hypertension affects 18 percent of adults up to the age of 40 years and 33 percent of adults above 40.

Addressing the audience Dr.Khalid Mehmood Yahya said “high blood pressure is both preventable and treatable. It can be easily prevented by weight reduction, reducing salt intake, taking regular exercise and avoiding the use of tobacco”


Chief Guest Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Tahir emphasized on raising the awareness by organizing seminars and workshops.

The seminar was followed by an awareness walk .
